The Year of Co-Productions

DJ Perry interviewed during press junket for DARKEST NIGHTWhere has the year gone? The winter solstice is almost upon us, and we are overdue for an update. CDI chief DJ Perry is recently back from a second trip to the Philippines. A press junket and the premiere of CDI’s first international co-production, DARKEST NIGHT, had him interacting with the international press and film scene in Manila. The director’s cut of the film was well-received at the premiere and further editing and post-production is underway for the theatrical version. The official DARKEST NIGHT website is now live, so check it out for more details on that project.

Another co-production has had a title change–RENOVATION is now DEADLY RENOVATIONS. This change comes as part of its distribution deal. U.S. theatrical release in select markets will be done by Nocturnal Features. Midnight Releasing will handle domestic distribution and Acort International will manage foreign sales.

After a series of successful screenings of  co-production OUTSIDE THE WIRE, distribution deals are under consideration and further screenings are being planned into 2012. Maybe we could call 2011 “the year of co-productions.”

On a more somber note, we have to mention the death of Bill McKinney on December 1. We were honored to have worked with Bill on GHOST TOWN. As news of his passing spread throughout the CDI tribe, we all shared fond memories of our time together in North Carolina. Rest in peace, friend.

Trailer Unveiled for Darkest Night

We were thrilled to see the trailer for DARKEST NIGHT make its first appearance, especially when we had a chance to see it on a big HD TV instead of a computer screen. Take a few minutes to watch it for yourself. Also check Facebook for updates including our recent media coverage (national and international). The official website is still in the pipeline, so keep an eye out for that.

Speaking of things still in the pipeline, upcoming news regarding other associated projects RENOVATION and LOCKED IN A ROOM is forthcoming. CDI has also teamed up with fellow Michigan motion picture production company Third Coast Film Partners based in Grand Rapids. Shout out to the west side! Pre-production for that project, 7 STONES, is already underway and filming for the gripping action-drama will begin later in July.

We’re past the 4th of July now, but CDI has had much to celebrate the last few weeks. The Michigan premiere for Outside the Wire in Owosso was a success! The first showing sold out, and turnout was strong for other showtimes over the course of the weekend. CDI has also added a new member to the tribe–legal counsel Eric Nelson.

The CDI tribe continues to grow–not just chiefs but also fans! Please stay tuned for more updates on projects, screenings, and other news. Summer has been, and will continue to be, a busy time for us, but we’re finding time to sit in a lawn chair. We hope you are too!

First Michigan Screening for OUTSIDE THE WIRE

Did you spend some time over Memorial Day weekend thinking about our troops–those who have fallen, those who have returned, those who are still far from home serving our country? Our brave servicemen and women are putting their lives on the line every day. Get an inside look at the humanitarian side of the mission in Afghanistan by going OUTSIDE THE WIRE with U.S. troops and CDI’s Anthony Hornus.

Tickets are now available for the first Michigan screening of this powerful documentary. OUTSIDE THE WIRE will be presented by the Owosso Community Players on June 25th (8:00 p.m.) and 26th (2:00 & 5:00 p.m.). Click here to buy tickets for any of the three show times.

Several members of the CDI tribe will be in attendance at the June 25th screening. We hope to see you there!

International & National Associations for CDI

Darkest Night concept posterDJ Perry, actor, producer and CDI’s CEO, is back in the U.S. after nearly 3 weeks in the Philippines working on CDI’s first international associated project, DARKEST NIGHT. Production is wrapped and the film is currently in post-production. National and international distribution deals are in the works and DARKEST NIGHT will have a fall premiere in the Philippines.

CDI has also licensed photos and footage from Dean Teaster’s GHOST TOWN to Popcorn Sutton’s Tennessee White Whiskey. Cast as a mountain man moonshiner in the film, Popcorn Sutton faced a real prison sentence for making illegal whiskey and sadly took his own life. However, Popcorn’s legacy and recipe live on. We are honored and proud to have worked with and known Popcorn. We share a commitment to the honesty of the product and hope to work on additional marketing efforts in the future.

Speaking of Dean Teaster’s GHOST TOWN, if you haven’t yet had a chance to see the “Red Mountain” music video for Paul Proios’s original song, check it out! CDI is open to moving into more music video projects. Contact DJ directly if you are interested in discussing any potential commercial work, including music videos.

International Associated Production to Film in Philippines

The shortest month of the year is about to draw to a close, but it’s been a busy one! Politically, there has been a lot of buzz about Michigan’s “budget bombshell” and the uncertain future of the film industry here in the Great Lakes state. While that whirlwind has been going on around us, CDI has gotten some good news on a couple fronts. We are particularly excited to announce an associated production that will film in the Philippines in April, DARKEST NIGHT.

CDI will be handling the film’s marketing and distribution in North America and the U.K. Additionally, CEO DJ Perry will be playing the leading actor role. Gothic Productions International, a Philippine company funded by independent U.S. resources, will be producing the project. It will be directed by experienced Filipino director Noel Tan. Check out the official press release for additional details.

On top of this associated project officially coming together this month, we’ve also been notified that OUTSIDE THE WIRE will be showing at multiple film festivals this year. It’s first appearance will be at the Cleveland International Film Festival. OUTSIDE THE WIRE will play March 29, 30 and 31. More info on additional festival appearances will be coming soon.
